Complexity Modeling of Steel-Laser-Hardened Surface Microstructures

Nowadays, laser hardening is a consolidated process in many industrial sectors. One of the most interesting aspects to be considered when treating surface-hardening steel materials by means devices undoubtedly evaluation heat treatment quality and surface finish. In present study, an innovative method based on fractal geometry was proposed evaluate surface-steel-laser-hardened treatment. A suitable genetic programming study SEM images (1280 × 950 pixels) developed order predict effect main parameters microstructural geometry, assuming microstructure laser-hardened structurally complex geometrical nature. Specimens hardened anthropomorphic robots were studied determine accurate measure investigated (surface temperature, beam velocity, impact angle). range variation for these parameters, model obtained line with complexity index calculated following theory. particular, percentage error less than 1% calculated.
